A thesis on paratuberculosis wins the fourteenth edition of SYVA Price
The award ceremony took place on the 31st of May 2011
This award, which has now reached its fourteenth edition, is granted each year to the best doctoral thesis in animal health, and has a prize of 15,000 euros.
The award committee of Syva Price 2011 decided that the winning thesis was presented by Dr. Elena Castellanos Rizaldos. The thesis was entitled as "Molecular characterization of isolates of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis: Spanish epidemiological".
The thesis was defended in July 2010 at the University Complutense of Madrid and was led by doctors Ms. Alicia Aranaz Martin, Mr. Lucas Domínguez Rodríguez and Ms. Lucia de Juan Ferré.
The award ceremony took place at the Auditorium of the common uses building of the Technology Park of León. This year the event had a special significance, because during ceremony the career of the University Professors, Dr. Miguel Cordero del Campillo was specially recognized. Beside this, Dr. Margarita Salas, a disciple of the Nobel Prize Severo Ochoa, imparted a lecture entitled: “From molecular biology to biomedicine”.
